Summer

Herbs

Basil will grow very quickly in hot weather, though keep it watered well for a tasty harvest.

Vegetables

Try warm loving capsicum, pumpkin, okra, tomato, leek, radish, rosella, cucumber and sweet corn. Keep established plants well watered & under shade if possible. Mulch well.

FRUIT (FRUITING)

Watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew, pineapple, passionfruit, apple (Tropical Anna), raspberries, macadamia, mangoes, pears, apples, plums, nectarines, apricots and cherries.

Flowers

Plant succulents, cacti, echinacea, everlasting daisy, impatiens, marigold, nasturtium, petunias, zinnias, dahlias, begonias and verbenas. Keep gardens well mulched.

Autumn

Herbs

Plant basil, chervil, chives, chicory, coriander, dill, fennel, garlic bulbs, lavender, marjoram, mint, oregano, parsley, sage, sorrel, rosemary, thyme, winter tarragon and yarrow.

Vegetables

Plant broad beans, broccoli, beans, beetroot, Brussels sprout, cauliflower, lettuce and leafy greens, leek, onion, parsnip, peas, radish, shallot, spinach, spring onion, tomato and turnip.

Feijoa, fig, custard apple, passionfruit, papaya/pawpaw, olives, pomegranate, pears, kumquat, watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew, strawberry, raspberry, burdekin plum, apples and goji berry.

Spring

Herbs

Protect plants from heat in late spring. Inland areas have a good climate for growing all types of herbs. Grow chilli, rosemary and basil.

Vegetables

Stop planting most vegetables by spring, although beans, capsicum, cucumber, eggplant, onion, pumpkin, radish, squash, sweet corn, tomato and zucchini can still do well. Harvest by summer. Watch out for fruit flys and control spray lawn weeds.

FRUIT (FRUITING)

Avocado, watermelon, rockmelon, honeydew, strawberries, mulberries, blueberries, blackberries, kumquat and papaya/pawpaw.

Flowers

If planting flowers, use advanced pots to ensure good flowering before it gets too hot (by November/December). Try petunia, vinca, cosmos, echinacea, marigold, salvia, sunflower, Sturt's desert pea, portulaca, nasturtium and zinnia.
